Leaves, Pods, Flowers: April-May

Throughout April and May, I collected fallen leaves, seed pods, and flower fragments during walks and painted them as small observational studies in watercolour. The leaves include banksia, eucalyptus, and ivory curl, the flower is an African Tulip, but I have not identified the seed pod.

What interests me most is the evidence of weathering and transformation - insect damage, bleaching, fungal marks, curling edges, and the shifting colours that appear as the leaves begin to dry and decay.

Here are some photos of the specimens and painting in progress. I used a mix of hues including Quinacridone Gold, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Yellow, and Lemon Yellow.
